Travel destinations in West India are probably led by the sea beaches of Goa by measure of popularity. The caves of Ajanta & Ellora, desert of Kutch, and Gir forest equally attract tourists from the domestic and foreign lands as well.

West India is comprised of the states of Goa, Gujarat and Maharashtra and the Union Territories of Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra is the Financial Capital of India and is a major destination in terms of business as well as touristic persuits. Mumbai being an important city in West India is also a gateway for other states by air / rail/road transport. It also acted as the gateway for foreign tourist coming to India by virtue of its sheer fame across the globe, developed over a long period of time. Some of the most visited tourist places in Mumbai are – Gateway of India, Elephanta Caves, Marine Drive, Aga Khan Palace etc. Near to Mumbai Pune and Nashik and Aurangabad are other tourist places for Shirdi Sai Baba Shrine, Buddhist, and Hindu Rock cut cave paintings of Ajanta and Ellora. Lately new locations are coming up in the state of Maharastra like Matheran, Mahabaleshwar, Lonavala & Khandala, Ganapatipule Beaches, and Panchgani etc. which are likely to catch the imagination of the experimenting traveler as well.

Very near to Mumbai the coastal state of Goa is a tourist’s favorite for its pristine Sea Beaches and its fun loving culture derived from the Portuguese occupation for a long time. Goa beaches offer a variety of fun activities like para-gliding, wind-surfing, water-skiing, scuba diving etc. and its sea food cuisine and boozing parleys provide the perfect partying atmosphere which is loved and cherished by the fun loving tourists all over the world. Among other tourist attractions of Goa are the majestic forts and churches of historic significance, Cruise options in Mandovi River and the Arabian Sea. The Carnival of Goa also attracts a huge following for its scintillating and glamorous events. The yearend extravaganza of Christmas and New Year bashes are other rallying points for the tourists to flock to Goa in search of fun and frolic.

The other West India state of Gujarat is another prosperous state by virtue of  its expertise in   business enterprises and trading. Some of the important tourist attractions of the state are exquisitely carved Marble stone temple of  Somnath, Shaking Minarets of Ahmedabad, Junagadh Fort and Makbara and ancient Buddhist caves, Sea Beaches of Beyt Dwarka, Rann of Katch, Saputara Hill Station, Sardar Sarovar Dam or the Gir National Forest Park which houses the only Lion population in Asia.   It also has several other famous wildlife sanctuaries like Velavadar National Park, Marine National Park and Sanctuary.

The sea side travel destinations of Daman & Diu are quite exquisite in terms of their natural beauty.  At Moti Daman, the massive fort, the majestic Light house, historic monuments and  Gothic style old churches, are  key places of interest. At Nani Daman, the  Fort and the church or the fishing jetty with anchored boats  are worth paying a visit. Diu is believed to be one of the hideouts of the Pandavas for several days during their anonymous exile days. The long deserted shoreline of Diu is the most sought after attraction of the place coupled with some historical monuments like the Jallandhar Temple, Diu Fort, Fort do Mar, Gupta Prayag at Delwada, Gangeshwar Temple, Nagao and Gomtimala Beaches, Shaking Tower of Delwada etc.

From the point of view of the traveler West India offers a lot of variety of locale and experience to savour. There are many festivals specific to the regions concerned and these provide an open window to the life style, Custom, rituals and ethnicity of the people peculiar to the place also. You as a traveler will no doubt never hesitate to choose from the numerous options available in West Indian destinations for a scintillating holiday  with your near and dear ones.
